HIGH-SAFETY AND CUSTOMS AREAS ST. GOTTHARD
In the middle of Central Switzerland, in a granite massif, the duty-free warehouse St. Gotthard is located in a former bunker of the Swiss government. The 24/7 security system has bulletproof and explosion proof doors and is one of the safest storage locations in the world.
The tunnel in the St. Gotthard massif is only about 90 kilometers from Zurich and can be easily reached by car or train. Originally it belonged to the so-called "Swiss Reduit", a military defense system that was built to protect against a German attack in World War II and consisted of about 20,000 bunkers along the northern and eastern border of Switzerland. A large part of the facilities was demilitarized after the fall of the Iron Curtain and sold to private investors. Including today's high security and duty free warehouse St. Gotthard.
